Torn by distance, he wonders how far to take custody fight
Story found on Boston.com.
CAMBRIDGE - After dinner almost every night, John McHugh calls his 7-year-old daughter, who lives 5,000 miles away in Brazil with her mother. He hopes his anger over his situation, a failed marriage that has left him alone with the family dog, does not come through to his bright little girl.
Before calling Chiara, McHugh often sets up his clarinet to play “Close To You,” the Carpenters’ song from the ’70s that his daughter loves and knows by heart. He thinks up stories about birds, raccoons, or ducks. Girls that age, McHugh has been told, like to deal in the concrete. Continue reading »

If you were to give a check-up to Alan Greene, eco-pediatrician extraordinaire, you just might diagnose him with ASHD — Attention Surplus Hyperproductivity Disorder. In my opinion, leaving a child in a car is one of the most dangerous actions a parent can make. Continue reading »

The female may, from early in life, be attached to the concept of an ideal partner. She socialises and seeks same, but does not see anyone who fits the bill. For Mandeville-based counselling psychologist, Avril Le Vel James, this is just one of the many reasons why women in Jamaica might have children late.
For females, early motherhood is defined as occurring before age 19. On-time motherhood occurs between 19-24. Late motherhood occurs when children are born after age 25. Continue reading »

Story found on Boston.com.
I am the dark-haired, brown-eyed mother of two blond, blue-eyed children. In airports and parks, I expect to be mistaken for their nanny.
My abdominal scars can attest that they are my biological children and were built using some of “my” genes.
But we are not Mendel’s peas, and the more we learn about genomics, the less pea-like we seem. Continue reading »

Just ask Facebook. Or the YMCA of Greater Toronto. Or the Applebee’s restaurant chain in the U.S. Or anyone else who has ticked off nursing moms lately. Continue reading »
